Assingment 22: Integrated Business Planning

What is “Integrated Business Planning” (IBP)?

It is about a method in the planning process of a company that controls the principles of standardization of operations throughout the supply chain, the catalog of products that the company offers, the client portfolio as well as the demands of the same in integrating them within a strategic planning that offers transparent management processes.

What is “Sales and Operations Planning” (S&OP)?

It is a form of management that increases communication within the business. It helps the areas involved in each company in order to guarantee better decision-making.

What are the similarities between IBP and S&OP? Mention and describe them.

They improve communication between the departments of the company, achieving a special team between the different areas.

Multifunctional collaboration improvement, planning agility, risk prevention, and forecast accuracy.

Better control of performance and results of new products and promotions as part of the development of a global strategy.

What are the differences between IBP and S&OP? Mention and describe them.

IBP guides the strategic direction of the company, while S&OP begins with the forecast of sales in the number of units.

In S&OP it is not possible to align with figures and financial forecasts of the business while in IBP it is.

At IBP, he does not specialize in the supply chain to align production volumes with sales volumes, while in S&OP does.

How does the IBP process work? Describe in detail.

I refer to the business objectives of a business from one end to the other, with a process of taking account of each business point and its various functions.

A plan is obtained that centralizes the control of the company, seamlessly connecting corporate performance management, financial planning processes and operational planning.

At the end, an analysis of possible situations is obtained that allows the business to integrate the management of its supply chains with

production, finance, sales, acquisitions, marketing, etc.

What are the challenges of IBP?

There is a challenge in demand planning without a doubt to achieve the highest expected accuracy. It is also critical to achieving a number of supplies involved with effective processes that are inexpensive as well as good customer service.

Which are the most common difficulties/problems when implementing IBP?

Traditional software does not support the required structure.

Specific skills are needed, modeling a complex supply chain often requires difficult coding and does not provide visualization.

Mention them and provide examples.

Using Excel as a primary planning tool represents an inflexible resource, unable to integrate and align the business objectives of the company, and that there are different cultures in the business.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of IBP?

Advantages

Efficient logistics, capacity, procurement, supply and demand, all with the use of a single planning solution.

Reduction of planning deadlines from weeks or tables to a few days or hours.

Greater value in the company's investments.

Increased confidence in meeting objectives.

Disadvantages

It crosses organizational boundaries for what is strength but also vulnerability.

Digital transformation initiatives fail primarily due to site effects.

Starting with a technology solution, first consider an integrated theory and methodology.

It is important because it can provide substantial benefits in the final results, the planning process guarantees an approach that allows early detection of any potential gap in the performance of the company, giving the ability to predict and respond assertively to changing conditions. with the necessary time.
